Paesi usciti vincenti dalla Guerra Fredda oggi sono in evidente declino, viceversa Paesi che la Storia aveva messo fuori corso oggi sono nuovamente protagonisti (la Cina è solo il caso più eclatante). Proprio i leader del partito comunista cinese, con realismo politico e cinismo storico, hanno pazientemente aspettato che la fame di guadagno dei capitalisti veri ed il fanatismo dei loro ideologi portasse le imprese ed il potere economico direttamente a casa loro; gli è bastato giusto cannoneggiare Piazza Tien an Men per convincerli che nessuna cultura liberale o tutela sindacale avrebbe ostacolato i loro affari e profitti.
